Key Issues Facing Oregon and
House District 52
|
 |
A growing economy
- Quality of life begins with a job, and good jobs come only from a growing private sector economy. For years, Oregon has been among the worst states in unemployment rate. To turn this around, Matt knows Oregon must be competitive in the global marketplace.
A world class school system
- The key to great schools is to disempower the bureaucracy. For decades we have tried to improve schools through top-down regulations and an ever-increasing list of rules. It doesn’t work. We need to put teachers, parents and principals in charge and let them make decisions at the local level.
Respect property rights
- Oregon’s land use laws are far too often unfair to the property owner. The government should not be allowed to regulate away the value of your property.
Protect the taxpayer
- With the economy looking shaky, state tax revenue forecasts have already started turning down. The Democrat solution will be to raise taxes which is the wrong direction. Raising taxes heading into a recession will only prolong the pain and delay the recovery. If tax revenues decline, the state government should spend less, not raise taxes.
